In GB150.4, only Clause 10.4 specifies that surface non-destructive testing is required for C, D, and E class welds on certain special pressure vessels. However, in our daily design work, surface non-destructive testing is required for C, D, and E class welds on all pressure vessels; for example, the welds between the vessel’s support plates and the shell (no relevant standard requires surface non-destructive testing for such welds). May I ask where else it is specified that non-destructive testing of the surfaces of these C, D, and E class welded joints is required? Is it decided by the designer themselves?
