The location chosen for the air separation unit was inappropriate, as it is situated in the center of the entire plant. To the east lies the thermal coal storage area, to the west are the methanol and purification facilities, and to the north is the gasification plant. No matter how the wind direction changes in the future, this will have a negative impact on the operation of the air separation unit, resulting in air that does not meet the required standards.
In accordance with Article 4.2.5 of GB50183 \"Code for Fire Protection Design of Oil and Gas Engineering\", air separation plants should be located in areas with clean air, and it is advisable to place them downwind of the direction from which acetylene and other flammable gases as well as dusts are emitted, considering the wind direction with the lowest frequency of occurrence throughout the year.
The defect could no longer be fixed, so in the end the air intake was raised by 20 meters; the difference isn’t significant, but it’s better than nothing.
