On December 8, the Public Science Center for Clean Energy and Green Carbon Technologies (hereinafter referred to as the “Science Center”), established with the support of the Qingdao Institute of Bioenergy and Bioprocess Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (abbreviated as “Qingdao Institute of Energy”) and Shandong Energy Research Institute, began trial operations in the Wanggezhuang industrial park. This center serves as a key platform for science education under UNESCO’s Science Decade “Green Carbon Initiative”. On the same day, the seminar on curriculum development for science popularization and science education was officially held. With the theme “Exploring Clean Energy, Creating a Green Future”, the Science Popularization Center closely connects cutting-edge scientific and technological achievements in the green carbon field with the public’s need for science education. It aims to create a practical platform for science popularization and science education that combines academic professionalism with an engaging, enjoyable experience. This science popularization center serves as a new platform for science education under the \"Double Reduction\" policy; it will help improve teenagers’ scientific literacy and foster top-tier innovative talents ; At the same time, efforts will also be made to build a bridge of understanding for the whole population to participate in green, low-carbon, and sustainable development, thereby fostering a consensus on green development across society. The science popularization center covers an area of 820 square meters. Around four main themes – \"Evolution of Energy,\" \"Green Momentum,\" \"Low-Carbon Lifestyle,\" and \"Exploring the Future\" – it creates a comprehensive knowledge system that encompasses history, cutting-edge developments, practical applications, and future prospects. The exhibition area not only features professional educational content but also includes various interactive simulation devices related to new energy, energy storage, and low-carbon living. It transforms complex scientific concepts such as the conversion and utilization of clean energy and the principles of carbon cycles, along with cutting-edge technologies, into tangible experiences, enabling the public to gain a deeper understanding of the mysteries behind clean energy and green carbon technologies through these interactive activities. In the future, the science popularization center will form a “1+N” science education framework together with the exhibition halls of the Qingdao Institute of Energy, the National Key Laboratory of Solar Photovoltaic Conversion and Utilization, and the education base for the spirit of scientists. In addition, it will also align with the strategic focus of the Qingdao Institute of Energy on the \"three new\" fields of new energy, new biology, and new materials, to continuously offer the public a wider range of distinctive science popularization programs and science education courses. In this new era where science popularization is integrated with science education, the Qingdao Institute of Energy is actively promoting the integrated development of \"education, technology, and talent,\" and has established an expert network that facilitates collaboration both internally and externally. To date, the Qingdao Institute of Energy has seen 2 scientific and technical professionals recognized as \"Dandelion Popular Science Experts,\" while 8 experts have been included in Qingdao’s list of popular science experts. The \"Green Carbon Popular Science Team\" has also been added to Qingdao’s database of popular science experts, providing professional support for transforming cutting-edge scientific achievements into popular science content ; A development team for green carbon science courses has been formed, comprising experts from the fields of technology, education, and science popularization. Through 4 specialized seminars, the direction for building science popularization centers as well as a science education curriculum system for primary and secondary schools were carefully planned ; It took the lead in establishing a \"Green and Low-Carbon Science Education Innovation Consortium\" guided by the Qingdao Science and Technology Bureau, the Municipal Education Bureau, and the Municipal Association for Science and Technology, with the participation of research institutions, schools, and social organizations. This consortium has pioneered a cooperation model characterized by leadership from science and technology, parallel efforts in education, and support from society, thereby injecting new momentum into the vigorous development of science education. The establishment of this science popularization center is another step taken by the Qingdao Institute of Energy to enhance its science popularization services. Building on the UNESCO Science Decade “Green Carbon Initiative” led by the Qingdao Institute of Energy, the Science Popularization Center will further collaborate with partners such as Germany, France, Japan, Brazil, and ** to develop various forms of science popularization resources. These resources will be used to disseminate knowledge about green carbon on a global scale, helping the public enhance their ability to contribute to the achievement of sustainable development goals, and demonstrating China’s commitment on the international stage of science popularization. To ensure a satisfactory visiting experience and service quality during the trial operation phase, the science popularization center will operate on a staggered admission basis, with all visits requiring reservation through official channels. Reservation notifications will be posted via the WeChat official accounts “Qingdao Institute of Bioenergy and Bioprocess Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences” or “Popular Science Center for Clean Energy and Green Carbon Technologies”. Based on the trial operation, the Science Popularization Center will gradually optimize its service processes and expand its opening scale to better meet the public’s needs for science popularization.
