I would like to ask fellow marine engineers: what is the fire separation distance required between two rows of buried horizontal storage tanks in the same tank farm? Building codes specify that the fire separation distance between two rows of horizontal storage tanks should be no less than 3 meters; what should it be for buried tanks?
It depends on the material and the diameter of the tank; it is generally not less than 3 meters. I remember that half of it can be buried underground, but there is also a requirement that it must be at least 3 meters deep.
