The steam pipeline leading from the power plant operates at a pressure of 1.6 MPa and a temperature of 200°C. After the pipeline was installed, a hydrostatic test at 3.0 MPa was carried out, and the test passed. The pipeline is now in operation using steam; it has been running for about a week. Today, it was discovered that there is a sand hole in the body of a DN150 valve, causing steam leakage. Although the leak is not severe, the amount of steam escaping is noticeable. I would like to ask everyone: since the pipeline is currently in use, is it okay not to replace the valve? Or could there be any problems if the replacement is done only during a shutdown for maintenance (in about 2 months)?

The steam valves are cast, and we often encounter sand holes as well. Our experience in handling such issues is that using a awl at the sand hole and hitting it with a hammer can prevent leaks, allowing the valve to function properly.
