I was assigned a project to renovate a liquor factory, and when designing the filling room for liquor (Category A), I encountered a problem: according to regulatory requirements, the filling room must be equipped with explosion relief mechanisms. Since it is a single-story building with a steel frame structure, the current approach is to use the colored metal roof as the explosion relief surface (the area required for this has been calculated), with explosion-proof walls installed around it. With the current filling equipment, openings must be made in the walls surrounding the filling room; otherwise, filling cannot be carried out. But once those openings are created, the explosion-proof walls become essentially useless... Which code were you using for the design? If it’s according to the 2014 Code for Fire Protection Design of Buildings, wouldn’t it be possible to design it based on the maximum fire compartment size for Class A buildings? As per building codes: Class A single-story factory building, fire resistance rating of Grade 1, with a floor area of 4,000 square meters. . .
