The plates of a plate heat exchanger are very thin; the pressure in the gas phase is low, while the pressure in the liquid phase is usually high, which makes the plates prone to deformation. It is also difficult for the gas to pass through, so gas-liquid exchange is not suitable for plate heat exchangers.
