The dryer we manufactured is made entirely of 316L material and is used in PTA projects; its function is to remove moisture from nitrogen exhaust gases. It is equipped with a float-type steam trap, and being entirely made of 316L, the small internal components became corroded after about 3 months of use. What material can provide corrosion resistance under such operating conditions?
316 won’t work; titanium should be used for halides
It’s mainly hydrogen bromic acid at a very low concentration; it’s not clear how long the 2205 duplex steel will hold up~
Use titanium or zirconium materials at high temperatures, and 316L at low temperatures. I think your material will corrode and accumulate liquid, which is why this happens
Fluorinated lining is cost-effective; it’s not clear whether it can meet the operational requirements
Hello, the operating temperature of the drainage pipes is 40 degrees. I think PTFE-lined pipes should work fine for this application. As for some of the main pipes, their maximum operating temperature is 200 degrees, which seems to be a problem. It’s tricky… If titanium alloy, tantalum, zirconium or similar materials are used, the cost will be too high. In my opinion, the most economical approach is to use ordinary materials combined with surface treatment
It is said that there are fluorine-based materials that can withstand 200°C, but I haven’t used them; you might want to check that out; To be honest, at such high temperatures, titanium may not be the suitable material; it’s best to verify this through metal coupon corrosion tests
