Currently, the facility plans to rearrange the circulation pipeline. Option 1: Use a pump with a flow rate of 400 m3/h and a head of 60 meters to deliver the circulating water to each heat exchanger; Option 2: First, use a pump with a flow rate of 400 m3/h and a head of 30 meters to deliver water to the plant area; then, at a height of 6 meters, add another pump with a flow rate of 400 m3/h and a head of 30 meters, which will act as a booster pump to send the circulating water to various heat exchangers. Is it better to use a single conveyor, or is it ideal to add a booster pump in between?
The last edit to this post was made by I believe LEE on 2018-4-23 at 17:15. If something can be done by one person, why use two? If a single pump is sufficient to handle a task, why use two pumps? Having too many devices increases the risk of failures, makes management more difficult, requires more labor for maintenance, and raises costs. If it’s possible to keep things simple, why complicate things?
Personally, I think a single pump is better for the following reasons: 1. Dual pumps increase the failure rate. 2. They double the operational complexity. 3. There are twice as many monitoring points and potential leakage points. 4. Dual pumps are harder to control
More equipment increases the risk of damage and downtime, as well as management and maintenance costs
It’s completely unnecessary to use two pumps when one will do; the operating conditions become more complex in that case

For relatively large heat exchangers, it is possible to consider installing a separate circulation water pump to meet the requirements for flow rate and head. In the plant, there is often a shortage of circulating water volume at the high points
I also agree with the view of Building 9#. It depends on your actual situation. It would be best to have a single pump. Previously, one circulating pool supplied 6 workshops and one distillation tower. However, the heat exchanger of the distillation tower is too high, so a separate pump has to be provided for it.
