I would like to ask the experts: In the pipeline design provided by the design institute, this pipeline is made of 20# steel with a diameter of DN15, a pressure rating of 1.0 MPa, and a corrosion allowance of 1.5 mm. So here’s the problem: in the pipe section table provided by the design institute, the wall thickness for that particular pipe is only 2 mm. The theoretical wall thickness of the pipe as calculated by me is 2.6 mm; adding a corrosion allowance of 1.5 mm, shouldn’t the wall thickness be 4.0 mm? Could any expert give some advice on which wall thickness to choose?
Thank you. If calculated according to the standards, the pipe thickness indeed includes a corrosion allowance; but if the standards are followed strictly, the pipe thickness becomes too thin after deducting the corrosion allowance.
A wall thickness of 2 mm for DN15 carbon steel pipes is indeed a bit thin; 2 mm for stainless steel pipes is acceptable. For pipes of this type with small diameters and low pressure, the minimum diameter is usually 3 mm.
The calculated thickness is definitely very thin; after adding the corrosion amount and the negative deviation in pipe thickness, it becomes thicker

Based on a design temperature of 100 degrees Celsius, a wall thickness of 0.1 mm is sufficient; 2 mm is also acceptable in principle. However, in our company, for pipes with a diameter of DN40 or less, the minimum wall thickness required is SCH80. For pipes with a diameter of DN15, the wall thickness is 3.73 mm.
