Do any experts know whether there are any requirements regarding the quality of water used for hydraulic testing after the installation of pressure pipelines is completed?
There are no particular requirements regarding water quality; generally fresh water is used, though fire-fighting water is also employed. The key is to ensure that this water does not have any adverse effect on your equipment. For subsequent tasks such as water flushing, it is usually sufficient. Steam cleaning is another option as well
Firstly, water quality will not cause damage to the pipes. Secondly, it depends on what the pressure pipes are used for; for example, in the food and pharmaceutical industries, the requirements regarding water quality vary
We should check the specification sheet for this, right? Our specifications require that the chloride level in water be below 50 mg/l, and that the suspended solids be below a certain value. Even stricter requirements apply to stainless steel pipes; in some cases, oxygen scavengers and corrosion inhibitors are also required.
It mainly depends on whether there is corrosion in the pipes; we use pressure from fire water for this purpose.
Check the internal specifications of your facility – are there any requirements regarding the levels of chloride ions, magnesium, and calcium ions? If the required standards are quite high, it is recommended to first introduce some nitrogen to carry out a leak test; only if no leaks are detected should ultra-pure water be added, with nitrogen also being used to purge the pipelines and remove any particles. Different units have different operating conditions. It still depends on your company’s actual requirements; everything else is just a suggestion or potential direction for implementation.
