I saw some design drawings showing thermal expansion valves installed on the inlet and outlet pipelines of the methanol storage tank; this is explained as a measure to address the risk of overpressure caused by thermal expansion when the valves are closed. Even at extreme summer temperatures, when 60°C is considered, the saturated vapor pressure of methanol is only 85 KPaA; at 80°C, it is 181 KPaA. The pressure remains within the range specified for pipeline design. I don’t understand why this thermal expansion valve is needed. Please ask Haiyou to provide a clear explanation and assistance

The pressure relief resulting from thermal expansion mentioned here refers to the increase in pressure within a confined space when a liquid expands due to heat absorption; once the pressure reaches a certain level, it is necessary to release this pressure in order to protect the pipeline and related equipment. The thermal expansion of a liquid is related to its volume expansion coefficient, and it has nothing to do with the saturated vapor pressure.
