For microfiltration experiments, what type of calcium carbonate should be purchased? Is it better to use one with larger particle sizes or smaller ones? Please provide an answer
Light calcium carbonate is a calcium carbonate product obtained through chemical methods, and its density is lower than that of heavy calcium carbonate. It usually has a high brightness level, with the **standard for brightness being above 90. The sedimentation volume is relatively high, generally above 2.5. The particle size can be made even finer, such as ultra-fine calcium, fine calcium, nano-calcium, etc. Heavy calcium carbonate is a type of calcium carbonate product obtained through physical methods; it is usually produced by grinding limestone of high purity. This type of calcium carbonate has a higher density than light calcium carbonate, and its whiteness is generally lower. The settlement volume is low. It is difficult to achieve even finer particle sizes. For use in filtration tests, it’s possible to make a comparison based on the size of the materials to be filtered.
