Hello everyone, I have a small question: In our projects, there are many chemical process pumps (centrifugal pumps), and for most of these pumps, two units are used, one in operation and one as a backup. In our process operations in conjunction with the DCS, as well as during employee operation, it is necessary to distinguish between the two pumps (one in use and one as a backup), namely Pump A and Pump B. In previous projects, it was done this way: during installation, the technicians arranged the pumps from left to right, or from right to left, or from south to north, or from east to west ; Or to distinguish them from north to south, or from west to east. During installation, mark A/B on the pump outlet pipe with paint ; Then, electrical engineers and DCS engineers carry out the work following this sequence of markings. After turning it on, the workers also followed this sequence to operate it. For different projects and different field engineers, the sequence of pumps designated as A/B varies. Each factory has its own* conventions; for consistency, we classify the smaller ones as A and B from left to right. The large ones run from east to west, and from north to south.
It also follows naming conventions; the names of branded devices are based on device tag/A and device tag/B, which allows for distinguishing between two identical devices, thereby enabling proper differentiation in DCS or PLC control as well.
