The media to be sampled consist of steam, O2, NH3, as well as trace amounts of CO2, H2S, phenols, oils, etc. The temperature is between 230 and 250 degrees, and the pressure is 4.0 MPag. It is necessary to measure the NH3 content in the entire mixed vapor; however, due to the high temperature and pressure, it is required to lower them. But when the temperature and pressure are reduced to levels suitable for measurement, NH3 may exist in both the gas and liquid phases. It is not clear how to design a sampling system that allows sampling from both the liquid and gas phases. What are the requirements for the sampling cooler? FID, whose full name is flame ionization detector, is a highly sensitive universal detector that responds to almost all organic substances, while showing no response or only a very weak response to inorganic substances, inert gases, or substances that do not dissociate in the flame. The sensitivity of the FID is 100–10,000 times higher than that of a thermal conductivity detector; its detection limit is as low as 10–13 g/s. It is not sensitive to temperature, responds quickly, and is suitable for use with open tubular columns for the separation of complex samples. Its linear range is 10 to the power of 7, making it the most sensitive detector for hydrocarbons among gas chromatography detectors. It is widely used for the detection of volatile hydrocarbons and many carbon-containing compounds.
