Gentleman experts? What is the relationship between naphtha and aromatics? Is it just one that is toxic and one that is not? Naphtha or aromatics for ethylene production by cracking?
Naphtha is a product from petroleum distillates with a temperature range of approximately 50 to 180 degrees, consisting mainly of aliphatic hydrocarbons and cycloalkanes, with a small amount of aromatic hydrocarbons present as well. Aromatics, on the other hand, are hydrocarbons that contain benzene rings. The toxicity of hydrocarbons cannot be simply classified as toxic or non-toxic; rather, the toxicity of a chemical should be described scientifically using parameters such as its short-term toxicity, long-term exposure toxicity, and median lethal dose. Cracked ethylene is produced using naphtha or other light-chain hydrocarbons as raw materials; aromatics cannot be used as raw materials for cracked ethylene, firstly because the yield is extremely low, and secondly because severe coking occurs during the cracking process.
1. It’s very difficult to open aromatic rings; further cracking only results in the breakage of side chains, leading to low yields. 2. Aromatics are already high-value chemical raw materials, and further cracking is not worthwhile.
