Does a shell-and-tube heat exchanger (using 0.3MPA saturated steam and water) require insulation? Do heat exchangers generally need insulation?
Is the shell side water? It’s definitely below 60 degrees, so insulation isn’t necessary
It depends on whether the steam exchanges heat with circulating water or with deionized water. If it is used with circulating water, insulation may not be necessary. If heat exchange is done with desalinated water, insulation is required, as the desalinated water still has other uses after having its heat removed.

What was mentioned upstairs about desalinated water requiring circulating water while not needing it is likely based on the actual conditions of the factory. Generally, circulating water is used merely to cool the medium; the colder the circulating water, the better. Therefore, no insulation is used for heat dissipation, and the cooled circulating water returns to the cooling tower, so the lower its temperature, the better. The desalinated water may be used to replenish water in the boiler; an increase in temperature after heat exchange helps to recover heat, thereby reducing heat loss through insulation
Insulation generally takes into account two aspects: one is thermal insulation, which prevents and reduces heat (or cold) loss, and the other is protection for people and the environment, to prevent burns or adverse effects on the environment. What do you think?
