Is a drain valve needed between the pressure gauge and the root valve? The client insists on its installation, for releasing pressure and draining it when the pressure gauge is being serviced. I’ve seen such valves not installed in previous cases; is it reasonable to install one or not?
We basically don’t have this setting here. But remember, there is also a three-way ball valve above the root valve on the pressure gauge of the boiler, which can serve the same purpose as you mentioned. Personally, I think: if the pressure is not high and the medium is non-toxic, there should be no major problems! (Personal opinion, for reference only!) )
Whether to use a drain pipe is determined based on the site conditions and the properties of the medium. Since the owner has made this request, there must be a reason for it.
A flange connects the pressure gauge to the root valve; when maintaining the pressure gauge, the root valve can be closed and the flange disconnected to release pressure, eliminating the need for a drain valve.
I used to work at a dimethyl ether plant, where the pressure gauges for methanol didn’t have root valves. Hydrogen sulfide needs to be installed. During maintenance, when the root valve was closed to remove a safety valve, a worker fainted from being overcome by fumes
From a safety management perspective, installing a drain valve is definitely beneficial; after all, if there is a leak in the valve and it doesn’t close properly, it can be quite dangerous to remove the pressure gauge blindly
The company I work for currently has drain guides in place, and from a safety perspective, it’s better to have them than not – it provides an additional layer of protection
It must be added; isolate and relieve pressure before replacing the pressure gauge
