Backflow prevention device on the pump

I have been studying the piping arrangements for pumps recently; it seems that in the drawings used in the petrochemical industry, as well as in process design manuals, the drain line located after the check valve usually extends all the way to before the check valve, so that the liquid can flow back to the pump on its own and be discharged from there. I’m not sure if my understanding is correct. However, standards such as HG20559 in the Ministry of Chemical Industry direct that the fluid remaining behind the check valve be drained or connected to a waste liquid pipeline. Perhaps it’s due to different conventions; I would like to ask whether, during design, it is possible for all pumps to allow the fluid to flow back into the pump body using such check valves. If some pumps cannot do this, then won’t the fluid remain behind them and not be completely drained?

It’s not always for drainage purposes; the pipelines designed with check valves in place help prevent the backup pumps from rotating in the reverse direction, and they also ensure that the backup pumps remain properly cooled and ready for use
