Dear colleagues: I am working on a fine chemicals project that involves allyl alcohol (highly toxic, classified as Category B). In the overall layout, allyl alcohol is stored in a fixed-roof storage tank with a nitrogen blanket, with a capacity of 50 m3; this tank is located together with 6 other 50 m3 storage tanks for flammable and combustible liquids within the same tank group. Is this arrangement feasible? ? ? I would appreciate your insights regarding the safety measures to be taken for the unloading and storage of highly toxic allyl alcohol, as well as the requirements for exhaust gas and wastewater treatment systems in storage tanks. If there are any relevant regulations or standards, please let me know so that I can learn from them :handshake
It depends on what type of fluid is in the other six tanks; generally, there’s no problem. If they all contain Class A or B fluids, only a dike needs to be installed, while if they contain Class C fluids, a barrier dike is required. The storage tank is equipped with a nitrogen seal; it is advisable to have two breather valves, one for allowing oil and gas to be recovered under low pressure, along with an emergency vent. The drain holes must be connected to buried oil waste pipes for sealed discharge, and gas detectors are installed
The gas line of the unloading crane pipe is connected to the gas return line at the top of the tank, and a breather valve is also installed on the gas return line
Highly toxic and other flammable substances must be stored in separate tank groups
If this petrochemical regulation is met, a HAZOP analysis is required, right? I’m not familiar with this raw material.
First, check whether allyl alcohol constitutes a significant hazard source. Highly toxic substances are subject to special regulatory requirements under public security regulations; such highly toxic materials must be unloaded in a sealed manner, and universal joints are essential for this purpose! Acrylic alcohol is highly soluble in water, and it can be washed with water; meeting the regulations regarding VOC emissions is sufficient!
