Old K’s weekly series – Talks about things in the petrochemical design industry, Post 27: In PID diagram design, it is necessary to assign a number to each pipe fitting, and a data sheet for each pipe fitting also needs to be prepared. The method for numbering pipe fittings is as follows: A-BCDA – Pipe fitting code; B – Code for the process unit, usually a two-digit number; C – Sequence number of pipe fittings of the same type within that process unit, starting from 01; D – When there are more than one of a certain type of pipe fitting, an uppercase letter is used as a suffix to distinguish them. Note: For large-scale installations, a main item number is generally added in front of the above pipe numbering to facilitate design work. In the PID diagram design for each main item, when numbering the pipe fittings, the main item number is not shown; instead, the numbers of the equipment, pipes, fittings, instruments, etc. are indicated in the remarks section of the PID diagram, with the main item number assumed to be prefixed to them. When compiling various data tables, complete numbers should be written. Table 27-1: Fitting Codes – Serial Number, Name, Tagged Items Code, Code1. Steam Trap: SST
