Disinfectants are indicated to have an effective chlorine content of 4.25%–5.75% (W/V). In this case, does such a potassium hypochlorite disinfectant qualify as a hazardous material? If it is a hazardous chemical and its hazard categories include skin corrosion/irritation, Category 1B for severe eye damage/eye irritation, Category 1 for harm to aquatic environments – acute hazard, Category 1 for harm to aquatic environments – chronic hazard, and Category 1 overall, is it still necessary to conduct a identification of major hazard sources?
Personal opinion: It mainly depends on the properties of your solution. If it is used as a raw material or in large quantities, it should be treated as a hazardous chemical. If it is filled into small bottles for use as a specific disinfectant, then it is considered a household item. However, it seems that disinfectant manufacturers have also noticed this issue recently, with the effective chlorine content in their new products kept below 5%.
