(hereinafter referred to as Changqingshu Technology) that China’s first production facility for p-tert-butylstyrene (TBS) has been successfully put into operation. This marks an important technical breakthrough in China’s efforts to develop domestic high-performance specialty polymer materials, filling a gap in the country’s capabilities in this area. Sun Jie, the board secretary of Changqing Technology, explained that TBS is a functional specialty polymer monomer with high technical barriers. Previously, only a few countries in Europe and the United States worldwide were capable of producing TBS; as a result, the product was expensive and mainly sold to developed countries such as those in Europe, the United States, and Japan. Although there is demand for TBS in relevant markets in our country, domestic capabilities for production technology and industrial-scale facilities are lacking, resulting in limited supply. Through years of research and development, Changqing Technology has successfully achieved localization of TBS. It holds complete independent intellectual property rights for everything from raw materials and catalysts to the production processes. In particular, it has developed highly efficient catalysts, enabling the product quality to reach a purity of over 99%; in some aspects, its performance even exceeds that of similar foreign products. This breakthrough not only enhances China’s independent innovation capabilities in the field of high-performance materials, but also provides a stable and high-quality supply of raw materials for downstream industrial chains. TBS polymers and polymer-modified compounds exhibit excellent thermal stability, mechanical properties, optical properties, and weather resistance, and are widely used in high-end applications such as superabsorbent resins, environment-friendly coatings, lubricant viscosity modifiers, low-toxicity active diluents, high-quality damping materials, and highly transparent medical materials. In particular, this product can be used in cutting-edge technology fields such as 5G and 6G communication materials, photolithography resins for high-end chips, and packaging materials. It is employed in applications like serving as a molding compound matrix resin in FOWLP (fan-out wafer-level packaging), modifying the substrates of 5G millimeter-wave antennas, and developing new chemical-amplified resist (CAR) materials; it is thus an irreplaceable functional monomer in the field of high-end electronic materials. Sun Jie said that the successful commissioning of the TBS device further increases the production capacity of Changqing Technology’s high-end products, meeting the demands of domestic industries such as high-end electro-optics and fine chemicals. It will also help traditional industries upgrade towards being more environmentally friendly, energy-efficient, and efficient. Through close collaboration with polymer material companies, Evergreen Technology aims to further expand the application areas of TBS and promote coordinated development across the entire industry chain.
