Recently, the first phase of the New Materials Pilot Production Base in the **East-West-Central Region Cooperation Demonstration Zone was completed, and it is now in the trial operation stage. As a specialized, intensive, and open-sharing pilot-scale production facility developed under the leadership of Shenghong Petrochemical, this facility represents the completion of a key link in Shenghong Petrochemical’s journey across the entire value chain from research and development to pilot production and industrialization. An innovation fast track that connects the laboratory to the production line is thus being rapidly established. It is reported that the pilot production base has a total investment of over 1.3 billion yuan, covers an area of 335.6 mu, and has a total construction area of 213,000 square meters. It features six specialized pilot production platforms for areas such as comprehensive incubation, high-end polymers, and green manufacturing processes, and is capable of supporting 20 pilot projects to be carried out simultaneously. With an initial investment of 640 million yuan, standardized factory buildings, specialized laboratories, as well as supporting storage and utility facilities have been constructed, providing all the necessary safety, environmental protection, and engineering validation conditions for pilot testing of new chemical materials. This pilot plant is deeply integrated into Shenghong Petrochemical’s own industrial ecosystem, located adjacent to the refining and chemical integration project, which ensures a stable supply of chemical raw materials. This seamless transition from raw materials to pilot-scale production significantly reduces the marginal cost of transforming research results, creating a closed-loop innovation chain in which \"materials are turned into finished products, and those products are further developed into usable items.\" It is worth noting that the pilot plant will work closely with Shenghong’s two advanced materials research institutes located in Shanghai and Lianyungang. The Institute of Advanced Materials focuses on researching cutting-edge technologies in areas such as high-performance polymers, specialty chemicals, new energy materials, and environmentally friendly materials. The pilot production facility serves as a bridge between the laboratory and industrial application – it is where advanced research results are scaled up and tested, and where mature technologies make their way to the market. This collaborative model of \"research institute + pilot production base\" covers the entire process from original innovation to large-scale production, significantly shortening the time required for translating research results into practical applications. It provides strong support for Shenghong Petrochemicals in accelerating its transition from the production of basic raw materials to the development of high-value new materials, as well as in speeding up the replacement of imported products with domestic alternatives. Targeting universities, research institutions, and small and medium-sized enterprises, the project establishes a full-life-cycle service system for the transformation of research outcomes, providing one-stop support including project approval, process design, facility construction, operation and maintenance, as well as industry connections, thereby enabling research results to be put into use right away. A professional engineering and technical team provides ongoing technical support, allowing researchers to focus on development, while significantly reducing the barriers to pilot-scale testing and shortening the time required for transformation. At present, research teams from various universities such as Tongji University, Sichuan University, and Hebei University of Technology, along with several companies, have expressed their interest in cooperating. A range of high-performance polymers, new energy materials, and green manufacturing technologies will undergo scale-up testing here.
