The 25th National \"Safety Production Month\" in 2026: Everyone talks about safety, and everyone knows how to handle emergencies; identifying and addressing risks and hazards. -------------------------------------------------- Current hot topics in chemical engineering are concentrated in five areas: green and low-carbon development, energy transition, biomanufacturing, intelligent chemistry, and high-end materials, all in line with the goals of reducing carbon emissions and promoting industrial upgrading. I. Green, low-carbon, and carbon-neutral chemical industries Carbon dioxide capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS): Electrocatalytic/photocatalytic reduction of CO₂ to produce ethylene, ethanol, etc ; CO₂-coupled alkane conversion (such as CO₂-oxidized propane dehydrogenation). Green hydrogen and hydrogen production from new energy sources: Hydrogen production via water electrolysis using renewable energy (PEM / alkaline electrolyzers) ; Hydrogen storage and transportation (liquid organic hydrogen carriers, high-pressure hydrogen storage) ; Green hydrogen coupled with coal chemical industry / synthetic ammonia. Recycling of waste resources: Catalytic pyrolysis/depolymerization of waste plastics ; Recycling of used battery materials (lithium/cobalt/nickel) ; Synergistic value enhancement of industrial solid waste. II. New Energy and Electrochemical Engineering New battery materials and devices: Solid-state batteries (sulfide/oxide electrolytes) ; High-nickel ternary/manganese-rich cathode, silicon-carbon anode ; Key materials for sodium-ion batteries. Electrocatalysis and energy conversion: Hydrogen production by water electrolysis (HER/OER catalysts) ; Nitrogen reduction to ammonia (electrocatalysis / chemical chain) ; Fuel cell catalysts (Pt-based / non-precious metals). Photovoltaic and energy storage materials: Perovskite solar cells ; Photothermal conversion materials ; Supercapacitor electrode design. III. Synthetic Biology and Biomanufacturing Synthetic biology: gene editing (CRISPR), metabolic engineering of microorganisms ; Bio-based platform compounds (such as succinic acid, adipic acid) ; Microbial fermentation for the production of drugs/fragrances. Biopharmaceuticals and Vaccine Engineering: Preparation of mRNA vaccine lipid nanoparticles (LNP) ; Antibody-drug conjugate (ADC) process ; Cell culture and separation purification. Enzyme engineering and biocatalysis: Design of immobilized enzymes ; Bionic catalysis ; Enzyme-coupled chemical catalysis (such as bio-chemical tandem reactions). IV. Intelligent Chemical Engineering and Process Intensification AI + Chemical Engineering: Machine learning-assisted catalyst/molecule design ; AI-driven reaction pathway prediction and process optimization ; Digital twin factories and intelligent control. Microchemical engineering and continuous flow technology: microchannel reactors (efficient heat and mass transfer, enhanced safety) ; Continuous flow chemistry as an alternative to batch processes ; Modular and automated production. External field enhancement and novel separation: supercritical fluid extraction ; Membrane separation (osmotic vaporization, gas separation) ; Microwave/ultrasound/light field synergistic reaction. V. Advanced Functional Materials Chemistry Semiconductors and electronic chemicals: photoresists, high-purity reagents, electronic specialty gases ; Semiconductor packaging materials ; Preparation and applications of 2D materials (graphene, MXene). High-performance polymers and composites: high-strength fibers (carbon fiber, aramid) ; Self-healing / smart responsive materials ; Biomedical materials (tissue engineering scaffolds, drug carriers). Catalytic materials and nanotechnology: single-atom catalysts, core-shell structured nanocatalysts ; Confined space catalysis ; Applications of nanomaterials in environmental protection/energy. Summary of key trends Greening: Shift from fossil fuels to CO₂, biomass, and waste as raw materials ; The process is low-carbon and waste-free. Intelligence: AI is integrated throughout the entire process of design, synthesis, representation, and deployment, resulting in shortened development cycles and reduced costs. Interdisciplinary integration: chemistry + biology, chemistry + materials, chemistry + energy, chemistry + data science – the boundaries between these fields continue to blur.
