In 2026, the 25th National \"Safety Production Month\" will see everyone talking about safety and everyone knowing how to respond to emergencies, with efforts focused on identifying and addressing potential risks and hazards. -------------------------------------------------- On June 16, the project for producing sustainable aviation fuel through direct air carbon capture on a scale of thousands of tons was launched at the Chemical New Materials Industrial Park in the Ningdong area. As the first domestic demonstration project for \"air refining\" to enter the stage of industrial-scale implementation, this project marks a new breakthrough for the Ningdong facility in its development of a complete industrial chain based on \"green electricity + green hydrogen + CCUS\". Abandoning the old logic that relies on fossil resources, this project adheres to the core vision that \"carbon dioxide is the oil of the new era.\" It introduces a technical framework based on \"flexible energy driving flexible chemical manufacturing,\" which captures carbon dioxide directly from the air and uses the abundant green electricity available at the Ningdong facility to convert it into sustainable aviation fuel. This \"carbon source substitution\" approach will truly enable a negative-carbon cycle in which \"1 ton of carbon is captured, yielding 0.28 tons of oil\", thereby eliminating the reliance on oil and natural gas at its source. Ren Yuxiang, chairman of Shanghai Carbon Genesis Technology Co., Ltd., said that the project is designed to capture 5,000 tons of carbon dioxide per year, with an annual output of 1,389 tons of high-purity SAF and related products. Although it appears to be of modest scale, it carries the strategic mission of achieving something from scratch – by conducting pilot tests, it helps to accumulate key process data, thereby laying a solid foundation for subsequent large-scale projects with production capacities of tens of thousands of tons. Leveraging the Ningdong base’s well-developed chemical infrastructure and low cost of green electricity, the production costs of this project are significantly reduced compared to traditional approaches. 2025: Completion of the 100-ton-scale production line in Lingang, Shanghai ; 2026: A thousand-ton pilot production facility in Ningxia will be established, and industrial scale-up testing will begin ; 2027: Launch the world’s first commercial project for 10,000-tonne-scale e-SAF ; Recently, Shanghai Carbon Genesis Technology Co., Ltd. completed its Series A financing. This round of financing was led jointly by Yellow River Delta Investment, Gaorong Venture Capital, and Boyuan Capital. New investors such as CATL, Sungrow Power Supply, and Yifeng Capital joined the round, while several existing shareholders continued to invest as well. The financing funds will be used for the company’s project to produce e-SAF (sustainable aviation fuel) via DAC (direct air carbon capture) on a thousand-ton scale in Ningxia, as well as for process scaling, upgrading of core technologies, and the recruitment of top talent from around the world.
