Yesterday, the turbine operators reported that the liquid level indication in the heat well of the condenser was inaccurate. After inspection by the instrumentation team, it was found that there was no problem with the instruments themselves (the measurement was taken using differential pressure and magnetic flap gauges). The trends of the two liquid levels are similar, but once the level reaches a certain height, it can no longer increase. Based on operations and other indicators, the actual liquid level has already exceeded the upper limit set for it. If we have to say that there’s a problem with the instrument in production now, what should we do? Dear experts, could problems with the manufacturing process affect the measurements? What might those problems be? Will there be a problem with the instrument?

Generally, it is suspected that the instruments are inaccurate; judgment should be based on local conditions. You say the trend is the same, which means the gauge isn’t broken; the problem might lie in an incorrect range setting. You should first go to the site and check whether the on-site indications match those of the instruments. Just because other operational indicators show that the liquid level is too high, it doesn’t necessarily mean that it is indeed too high.
Possible reasons: 1. Incorrect density (the density of condensed water at high vacuum levels is not 1), resulting in a low reading; 2. Differential pressure measurement fails at high vacuum levels; therefore, direct differential pressure measurement is generally not recommended ; 3. Unreasonable migration ; 4. Installation issues, especially improper installation of the pressure tapping wires.
