It is a flow meter that operates on battery power and has wires leading out from its battery terminals; when replacing the battery, these wires need to be disconnected, and then reconnected to the new battery using a soldering iron. Generally, there are no issues with identifying the positive and negative terminals. Of course, in practice, it’s basically not done by replacing it online.
