Is certification required for the configuration of lower-level programs in an ESD system?

As the title suggests, for domestic safety instruments and similar ESD or SSS systems abroad, what relevant certifications or qualifications are required according to the standards? We are carrying out maintenance work at offshore oil fields, and now we’re under pressure to modify the lower-level configuration logic of the ESD system without any design documents – we don’t dare to do that. I would be extremely grateful if any expert could provide relevant evidence!
Putting everything else aside, without design documents, if an accident occurs as a result of changes, whose fault will it be? Every project has its own workflow
That’s exactly what it is. But right now there’s a lot of pressure and it’s difficult; I’m looking for some basis to determine whether changing such a safety instrument system requires any specific professional qualifications or certifications
If it comes to the SIS requirements, those must always be met; otherwise, there will be a downgrade or failure to pass.
