Device shutdown purging

The unit is shut down for purging; does the flow meter also need to be purged? I see that some flowmeters have a secondary line while others don’t. If it needs to be purged by releasing fluid, those with a secondary line can do so; but what about those without a secondary line?
The flow meter must be purged to prevent residual material. As for the flow meter having a secondary line, I’m not sure what you mean by a secondary line
Flowmeters usually have a bypass line, which is provided for maintaining the flowmeter without shutting down operations. The flow meters commonly referred to are vortex flow meters and turbine flow meters; they do not include flow meters such as orifice plates. Ultrasonic devices are also known as flow meters, but they do not have a secondary line. Flowmeters that require a bypass line are those in which the flowmeter body itself (not just the gauge face) needs to be removed during maintenance.
Got it, we call it a bypass. Facilities considered for maintenance without shutting down the system during the initial design phase are included, including control valves as well.
