Experts, how do you decide when it comes to connecting cabinets together in systems such as DCS and SIS? That is, should the side panels on both sides of the cabinets be removed?
It doesn’t matter whether it’s removed or not; if there’s no impact, then going through the extra trouble of doing it is unnecessary. It depends on how you arrange the wiring – generally, the wiring is done below the anti-static floor.
The manufacturer has been suggesting that we combine the cabinets, but we don’t see any advantage to that; instead, it only makes things more chaotic. It is claimed to help with heat dissipation, but since there are central air conditioning systems in modern server rooms, it seems like what the manufacturers say is rather far-fetched. I just think they’re doing it to save money on the side panels; P
If it is to reduce costs, this approach is also acceptable; the cabinets can be shipped without those components installed, thus avoiding the hassle of removing them on-site and taking them back. The project manager should think of this issue in advance.
When cabinets are combined, they are designed as a single cabinet; during transportation and packaging, they are also packaged and shipped as a whole. In my opinion, the advantage is that it can improve the overall integrity of the system and reduce cross-wiring between cabinets (there are other methods as well). The downside is that, due to the need for overall transportation, the size and weight increase significantly; moreover, the connections between the cabinets are weak, which makes transportation and installation more difficult. I have seen systems provided abroad that combine 6 cabinets together (one set consisting of 6 cabinets), and although many systems made in China have their side panels removed, they are actually combined in pairs. Speaking of cost issues, combining cabinets doesn’t necessarily result in lower expenses. However, the reason for combining cabinets in pairs in China is to save costs by using ordinary cabinet units.
