The chemical name for liquid chlorine is chlorine in liquid state. It is a yellow-green oily liquid that is toxic. Its boiling point is -34.6°C and its melting point is -103°C. Under normal pressure, it vaporizes into a gas. Inhalation of this gas can cause severe poisoning. It has strong irritating and corrosive effects. Chlorine is a very reactive substance; it can react with most elements (or compounds). Liquid chlorine does not burn, but it can assist combustion. Most common combustibles can burn in chlorine, and most flammable gases or vapors can also form explosive mixtures with chlorine. Liquid chlorine is a basic chemical raw material that can be used in industries such as metallurgy, textiles, and papermaking. It is also a precursor for the synthesis of hydrochloric acid, polyvinyl chloride, plastics, and pesticides. Store in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated place, protected from fire, sunlight, and heat. Due to the high toxicity, corrosiveness, and flammability of liquid chlorine, along with the safety requirements for measurements in tank areas, level monitoring of liquid chlorine storage tanks poses a common challenge in the chlor-alkali industry. In the initial stage of the project, users employed magnetic flap level gauges on the liquid chlorine storage tanks. However, after some time of use, ice formed on the walls of the measuring tubes, making it impossible to take readings. This led to severe corrosion of the parts of the gauge that came into contact with the medium, resulting in the failure of the gauge and posing a risk of leakage. Common problems encountered in the use of magnetic flap level gauges: 1. Due to the principle of the communicating tube, differences in pressure and temperature between the communicating tube and the tank result in large measurement errors ； 2. Prone to severe fluctuations ； 3. Problems such as float jamming are likely to occur. The level measurement instruments in the liquid chlorine tank area need to be replaced with safe and reliable level meters.
