Radar level gauges come in contact and non-contact types, and they are used to measure the level of substances inside tanks. There are some common aspects regarding their use, with the following points worth noting: 1. For radar level gauges installed outdoors, it is advisable to install a shade canopy or protective enclosure to prevent the display screen from aging due to prolonged exposure to sunlight. If a radar level gauge is used in an environment with corrosive gases, an anti-corrosion cover must be installed, and the outer casing of the gauge as well as the inlet and outlet terminals must be tightened. When radar level gauges are used in environments with corrosive gases or liquids, or at seaside or on the ocean, anti-corrosion models must be selected. 2. For wire and cable protection tubes, pay attention to sealing to prevent water accumulation and to stop them from being torn by rodents such as mice. 3. Although the instrument is equipped with its own lightning protection devices, when using a radar level gauge in areas with frequent lightning strikes, it is recommended to install separate dedicated lightning protection systems at the inlet and outlet connections of the instrument. 4. When the instrument is used in extremely hot or cold environments, where the surrounding temperature may exceed the operating requirements of the instrument, it is recommended to install devices to protect against high and low temperatures around the level gauge. 5. The radar must be perpendicular to the liquid surface being measured, and there must be no other obstacles within the conical range of the radar’s electromagnetic waves. 6. In environments where radar level gauges are used and there is dust, steam, fog, foam or floating particles on the liquid surface, as well as agitation or waves in the liquid, special considerations must be taken.
