Recently, the global energy and chemicals giant ExxonMobil and Guangdong Dongjie New Materials Co., Ltd. held a strategic cooperation signing ceremony in Zhuhai. The two parties announced that they would work together to develop the use of cycloolefin resins in the automotive industry, and to build a facility in the Zhuhai Economic and Technological Development Zone capable of producing 100,000 tons of cycloolefin resins per year. The total investment in this project is 1 billion yuan, with production expected to begin by the end of September 2025.
The first flagship project of this partnership is the 100,000-ton/year cycloolefin resin plant, built with investment from Jinrui Resins (Zhuhai) Co., Ltd., and is located in the Zhuhai Economic Development Zone. Once completed, the project will primarily produce high-performance thermosetting resins. By utilizing world-first technology and achieving large-scale production, it aims to capture a share in the global premium resin market, thereby contributing to regional economic development and job creation.
This cooperation project also aligns with the key areas of support for high-performance polymer materials outlined in the 14th Five-Year Plan, and it represents an important effort by ExxonMobil to assist China in achieving its carbon neutrality goals. It is expected that the project will reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 100,000 tons per year, while creating more than 500 jobs, thereby contributing to the green and low-carbon development of the Zhuhai Economic and Technological Development Zone.
