Is the interlocking value for centrifuge oxygen content detection calculated based on the medium’s limit oxygen content LOC value ÷ 1.5 (safety factor)? Is the alarm value calculated based on the calculated interlock value minus 2~3%?
This calculation idea is indeed very common in chemical safety design. The LOC value is divided by the safety factor as the interlock value, and a margin is left for the alarm value. There is no problem in logic. However, there are several points that need to be paid attention to in actual projects.: Selection of safety factor - 1.5 is an empirical value. It depends on the medium characteristics and process fluctuation range. Some specifications may require 1.5 to 2.0. It is best to check the design standards of your industry or your company's safety design guidelines. The source of the LOC value - the LOC of the medium under high temperature and high pressure may be lower than the normal temperature and pressure value. Use the LOC data under actual working conditions instead of directly applying those in the literature. The difference between the alarm value and the interlock value - 2~3% is also considered a common experience, but if possible, it is recommended to do a risk assessment (such as HAZOP analysis) to determine the specific value to avoid frequent false alarms or insufficient protection. In short, this algorithm can be used as a preliminary reference. For the final value determination, it is recommended to go through the professional Hazop or SIL evaluation process.
