Many coke oven gas desulfurization systems these days adopt an integrated design that combines the desulfurization tower and the regeneration tower; please discuss the advantages and disadvantages of this technology based on your own experience. Thank you!
1. The integrated tower occupies less space and has a high utilization rate. 2. Compared with high-tower regeneration, the integrated tower requires fewer devices and results in lower investment costs. 3. Compared with low-tower jet regeneration, the integrated tower reduces the need for liquid-pump equipment, thereby saving energy consumption
It’s not good; a single-tower design is not recommended. Air is introduced passively, making it difficult to supply air actively. Tower regeneration is better than this approach
The integrated tower used at Jigang proved to be very ineffective; oxygen was fed into it for use. Later, during renovations, it was decided that there was no need for an integrated tower any longer, and instead a tall tower made entirely of stainless steel was adopted. Tell me if it works well or not. It may seem like a way to save on investment, but the results are poor. With such strong environmental pressures, one should not prioritize saving money; instead, it is essential to ensure compliance with environmental standards. By avoiding a few fines, the initial investment can still be recovered. It’s not worth it; integrated towers are not recommended.
The key lies still in solution regeneration; inadequate management during passive air supplementation increases raw material consumption, so it’s necessary to try alternative approaches
I found that the integrated towers built by Chang himself work quite well for those with strict security requirements. Most of the main contractors are not good
1. Although the floor area of the integrated tower is smaller, its operational efficiency does not increase; the shorter residence time of the overall desulfurization liquid severely affects the regeneration process; 2. Although the investment in integrated tower equipment is lower, the load on each tower increases, which leads to higher costs for driving piles as part of the civil engineering foundation work ; 3. Although the kinetic energy consumption of the lean liquid pump is reduced, the head capacity of the rich liquid pump increases significantly; therefore, it offers no advantage either in terms of pump selection or kinetic energy consumption.
For subsequent applications involving the conversion of coke oven gas into methanol or LNG, where low sulfur content is required, it is not recommended to use a single-tower desulfurization system: 1. The so-called single-tower desulfurization method simply involves placing the injection and oxidation regeneration tank at the top of the desulfurization tower; this does not result in significant improvements in the structure of the desulfurization tower, nor does it save much in terms of investment. Moreover, the required injection pressure necessitates an increase in the head pressure of the liquid-rich pump; 2. Single-tower desulfurization using spray regeneration is not suitable for frequent changes in gas load; the air volume is not easily measurable, and adjustment based on comparisons is difficult, which requires a high level of skill from the operators ; 3. Apart from saving space, it has no other advantages; it is extremely inconvenient for maintenance personnel to carry out repairs and for inspection staff to conduct inspections ; Especially in the winter in the north ; 4. Compared with high-tower compressed air regeneration, the operational parameters are difficult to control, especially the ratio of regenerating air ; Especially now, with large gas volumes per system in coking enterprises and pre-desulfurization using the ammonia method.
We use a blower-type integrated tower, which overcomes the disadvantages of passive air intake and high pump head associated with traditional integrated towers. The pressure of the liquid entering the injector is at atmospheric pressure; the pump head is around 50 m. The air intake pressure is 30 KPa. The hydrogen sulfide concentration at the inlet of the coking gas can reach up to 35 g/Nm3, but it drops below 20 mg/Nm3 after the two-stage processing. It works well.
If the budget allows and there’s a venue available, it’s recommended to go with the high and low towers! A single tower may seem to save costs in various ways, but it is actually not very effective; its regeneration time is short, its performance is inferior to that of towers with multiple levels, and it is difficult to maintain proper water balance during winter.
