Yuhuang Chemical’s 1.8 million tons/year methanol project in the U.S. begins construction 2017-4-11 On April 11, 2017, it was reported that Yuhuang Chemical stated that the 1.8 million tons per year methanol project located in Louisiana, U.S., has officially begun construction. This facility will become the largest methanol production plant in the United States, surpassing the Natgasoline plant with a capacity of 1.75 million tons per year, which was expected to come online in the fourth quarter of 2017 in Beaumont, Texas. The construction scale is 1.8 million tons per year of methanol produced from natural gas; China National Engineering Corporation and Air Liquide of France are responsible for the project implementation and providing methanol technology support, respectively. The total investment in the project is $1.5 billion, and the financing for this project was completed in March, with $800 million obtained from banks. It is of great significance for domestic chemical industries to enter the American chemical sector; first and foremost, intellectual property rights must be respected – they should not be undermined, nor should one’s proprietary technologies be given away casually.
What is the significance of moving production to the United States? Is it because the labor costs there are low, or to be closer to the areas with demand for methanol?
