Recently, some manufacturers have requested methanol with a total sulfur content of less than 2 ppm. I wonder if it is difficult to achieve this specification?

The feed gas used for methanol production always contains trace amounts of gases such as H2S and SO2. Sulfur-containing gases have a relatively high solubility in methanol; therefore, if the concentration of H2S, SO2, and other such gases in the syngas is high, the resulting methanol will contain sulfur. According to the current mainstream methanol production processes, these gases are generally kept at levels below 1 PPM; in some cases, they are even controlled at the PPB level, so that sulfur content in the resulting methanol is essentially undetectable.
