A few days ago, reporters visited the Fuyang Coal-Based New Materials Industrial Park, located between Yanglou Town and Kouzi Town in Yingdong District. The flagship project there – a new facility built by Anhui Haoyuan Chemical Group at an investment of 3.782 billion yuan, with an annual production capacity of 260,000 tons of styrene and 60,000 tons of ethylene oxide, along with related facilities – has largely been completed and is now in the stage of system purging and pressure testing. A 180-meter-high white chimney is used to discharge the filtered, compliant waste gases. Six enclosed white silos have a storage capacity of 60,000 tons, and the coal conveyor belts are fully enclosed... Within the industrial park, the installation of large-scale facilities capable of producing 260,000 tons of styrene and 60,000 tons of ethylene oxide per year, along with the accompanying MTO facilities, is now in its final stages. The environmental benefits provided by these new equipment and processes are significantly better than those of traditional methods. “Coal storage and transportation involve fully enclosed troughs for unloading coal, silos for storing coal, and belt conveyors for transport, along with bag-type dust removal systems to prevent coal dust pollution. ”Zhang Chao, assistant general manager of Anhui Haoyuan Chemical Group, told reporters that traditional coal storage and transportation involve mostly open-air operations, which cause significant dust pollution; the new system eliminates this source of pollution entirely, keeping the raw coal in a sealed state from transportation to use. Within the industrial park, environmental protection measures are applied in almost every stage of the production process. In addition to bag filters, the facility is equipped with systems for sulfur and nitrogen removal, as well as ash storage and slag storage areas, to ensure that ash and slag do not end up on the ground ； A sulfur recovery unit was installed, utilizing the ECOSATM wet acid production process to convert the low-temperature methanol wash off-gases containing acidic gases into 98% sulfuric acid product. “For example, ash silos and slag bins are used to collect the waste ash and slag generated during the production of styrene and ethylene oxide through pipelines, and then these residues are packaged and sold to nearby cement plants and brick factories. ”Zhang Chao said that this not only reduces pollution but also enables the comprehensive utilization of resources. During the reporter’s interviews, it was found that the construction of the industrial park is nearly complete, and the main structure of the accompanying water treatment plant has also been largely finished. Zhang Chao said that the industrial park is equipped not only with a water treatment plant but also implements a system for separating rainwater from wastewater within the park. On one hand, rainwater and outdoor water are collected through underground pipelines, and the recirculation station uses this water directly for washing workshops and equipment as well as for watering roads and landscaping ； On the other hand, domestic wastewater and other industrial wastewater generated within the plant are treated at the wastewater treatment station before being discharged after meeting the required standards. “With the new equipment and new factory facilities, Haoyuan Group’s old factory site and its traditional manufacturing processes will cease operations within 5 years. ”Zhang Chao told reporters that, in accordance with the overall plan for the park, Haoyuan Group has 14 projects planned to be established in the coal-based new materials industrial park, with a total investment of 21.2 billion yuan. The project aimed at producing 260,000 tons of styrene and 60,000 tons of ethylene oxide is set to begin operations in April next year; it is expected to generate an additional annual revenue of 5.6 billion yuan and additional profits and taxes of 655 million yuan. It is reported that the Fuyang Coal-based New Materials Industrial Park is planned to cover an area of 30 square kilometers in the long term, with a total investment of 12 billion yuan. Following the principles of circularity, industrial park development, high-end production, integrated multi-product manufacturing, and low pollution, the park will in the future attract various processing and manufacturing enterprises that use coal, methanol, as well as their downstream products and by-products as raw materials. The goal is to establish a base for the production of coal-based chemical new materials, thereby achieving sustainable development.
