Zhongtian Hechuang’s 900,000-ton per year refined methanol plant strives for high-standard handover by July 30 / Author/Source: Huahua Network – Coal Chemicals; Date: 2018-07-12; Clicks: 65. Recently, the 900,000-ton per year methanol distillation project led by Zhongtian Hechuang held a mobilization meeting to ensure a high-standard handover of the refined methanol plant by July 30. At present, the project has fully entered the subsequent stages such as water testing, individual tests, and the \"three inspections and four determinations,\" and is at a critical phase. The main components of the coal-to-olefins unit in Zhongtian Hechuang’s Ordos coal deep processing demonstration project include a 3.6 million tons per year coal-to-methanol plant, a 1.37 million tons per year polyolefins plant, as well as supporting air separation, boiler, power generation, and auxiliary production facilities. The methanol synthesis unit produces MTO-grade methanol, which is the raw material required for the production of downstream olefins; this methanol has a purity of 95 wt%, and a single-column distillation process is employed. The methanol synthesis plant consists of two series, with each series having a capacity of 1.8 million tons per year (based on 100% methanol), and the operating flexibility of the plant is 60–110%. To enhance the flexibility of production across the entire plant and improve its market adaptability and competitiveness, it is planned to expand and extend the existing methanol synthesis facility by adding a new methanol distillation unit with an annual capacity of 900,000 tons. This will allow some of the MTO-grade methanol to be further distilled into industrial-grade methanol that meets ** standards. The 900,000 tons per year methanol distillation project of Zhongtian Hechuang was EPC-general contracted by Sinopec Ningbo Engineering Co., Ltd. At the mobilization meeting, Zhejiang An, the construction contractor, first gave a report on safety management at the current stage, technical and quality management, key tasks to be carried out, as well as the remaining work to be done. He then pledged to provide all necessary resources for the construction of Unit 228, to address any difficulties on site, and to assign dedicated personnel to oversee the progress, ensuring that the 900,000 tons per year methanol plant meets the high standards set for completion by July 30. The project department requires that we clearly recognize the safety risks and existing problems in the later stages of the project, maintain a high level of vigilance regarding safety, and not relax in terms of awareness. Quality management efforts must also be sustained consistently. Both parties need to work together in unity to ensure that the 900,000 tons per year methanol plant is delivered on schedule with high standards by July 30th. The Zhongtian Hechuang Ordos coal chemical project is located in the Tuk Chemical Industry Zone in Tuk Town, Wushen Banner, Ordos, Inner Mongolia. With a total investment of around 60 billion yuan, it is currently the largest coal-to-olefins project; its core processing technology is the S-MTO technology owned by Sinopec. On September 24, 2016, the 3.6 million tons per year methanol production facility (comprising 2 units, each with a capacity of 1.8 million tons per year) as part of the Zhongtian Hechuang Ordos coal deep processing demonstration project successfully produced qualified methanol products. On October 28, the project completed all process steps, producing qualified polyethylene and polypropylene.
In the future, there will be more avenues for selling these products; methanol can be sold to make money, and olefins can be produced to generate income.
