**Launch of the key research and development project “Key Technologies for the Efficient Synthesis of Alcoholic Chemicals from Syngas” Author/Source: Yahuac Coal Chemical Industry Date: 2018-09-28 Clicks: 4 Recently, China Shenhua Coal-to-Oil Chemical Co., Ltd., the lead entity for the project “Key Technologies for the Efficient Synthesis of Alcoholic Chemicals from Syngas” under the special program on “Clean and Efficient Utilization of Coal and New Energy-Saving Technologies,” together with the Office in Charge of Managing This Special Program (hereinafter referred to as the “Program Office”), held a meeting in Beijing to discuss the project implementation plan and mark its launch. More than 60 representatives attended the meeting, including officials from the Technology Department of Energy Investment Group Co., Ltd. and leaders from China Shenhua Coal-to-Oil Chemical Co., Ltd.; experts from the project’s technical advisory committee; representatives from the research and development departments of the lead and participating organizations; project leaders and key team members; experts responsible for the overall project evaluation team; and relevant staff from the Program Office. **In his speech, the head of the Technology Department at Energy Investment Group Co., Ltd. called on the project team to leverage their expertise in research related to the production of chemicals from syngas, and to make use of this rare opportunity to undertake the project in order to further strengthen cooperation among industry, academia, and research institutions, overcome key technical challenges, and strive to complete the project’s research objectives. In his speech, the person in charge of China Shenhua Coal-to-Oil Chemical Co., Ltd. expressed the hope that the project team would strictly adhere to the scheduled milestones for project implementation, carry out effective organizational management, and ensure the smooth progress of the project. The project leader provided a detailed introduction to the project implementation plan, covering aspects such as the basic situation of the project, task breakdown and research work, key milestones and implementation schedule, as well as the organizational management mechanism. They also presented the research foundation for the project and the preliminary progress made in the research. The experts present listened carefully to the project team’s report and had thorough exchanges and discussions with them, offering many valuable suggestions regarding the evaluation of key project indicators, the control of important milestones, the coherence of project tasks, and risk analysis. The person in charge of the special project office, under the theme of \"Studying and implementing the principles of ‘delegating power, streamlining administration, and improving services’ in the field of science and technology, as well as fulfilling the main responsibilities for managing research projects,\" introduced the overall situation of these key projects and the requirements outlined in the relevant management documents. They shared the experiences and insights gained over the past two years in managing such projects, urging the project leaders and organizers to assume greater responsibility for management, establish a comprehensive project organization and management system, and continue to refine the project implementation plans. Starting from the desire to carry out a project during the application phase, it is necessary to determine how to actually carry out the project during the implementation phase. Meanwhile, the special project office will continue to monitor project progress and provide support, in line with the requirements set out in documents such as the \"Notice of the State Council on Several Measures to Optimize Research Management and Improve Research Efficiency.\" Key Technologies for the Efficient Synthesis of Alcohol Chemicals from Syngas. Research topics: Investigation of key technologies and catalysts for the efficient synthesis of ethanol, low-carbon alcohols, ethylene glycol, etc., from coal-based syngas ; Developing new synthesis processes and reactors ; Engineering technologies for the efficient synthesis of alcohol compounds from syngas ; Establish an industrial-scale demonstration plant for the production of alcohol compounds from coal-based syngas. Evaluation criteria: Build a demonstration plant for ethanol production from syngas with an annual capacity of over 100,000 tons, with a total selectivity for the target product of ≥90% ; In a plant with an annual production capacity of 10,000 tons, the synthesis of low-carbon mixed alcohols achieves a total alcohol selectivity of ≥70% (with C2+ alcohols accounting for ≥60% of the total alcohols), and the catalyst lifespan is ≥7200 hours ; The new catalyst for the hydrogenation of syngas to ethylene glycol was tested in industrial plants with a capacity of over 200,000 tons per year; the quality of the produced ethylene glycol met the top-grade standards specified in the national standard (GB/T4649-2008).
