On September 29, the signing ceremony for the EPC contract related to the boiler island of Jiu Tai’s ethylene glycol project was held at China Power Engineering Consulting Group Southwest Electric Power Design Institute Co., Ltd., by Jiu Tai New Materials Company and Jiu Tai Energy (Ordos) Co., Ltd. Cui Yijun, General Manager of Inner Mongolia Jutai New Materials Company, Duan Yongsheng, Deputy General Manager of Jutai Energy (Ordos) Co., Ltd., Hao Qunyan, Party Secretary and Chairman of Southwest Electric Power Design Institute, Li Lei, General Manager, Zhou Xiande, Deputy General Manager, Zhang Weidong, Project Manager, and Yi Lirong, Chief Designer of the project, attended the meeting. The project of Inner Mongolia Joutai New Materials Co., Ltd. to produce 1 million tons of ethylene glycol per year is located in the Tuoketuo Industrial Park in Hohhot’s Helingeer New Area. In June 2017, the product scope of this project was changed; instead of producing 1.7 million tons of coal-based olefins and related fine products annually, it now aims to produce 1 million tons of ethylene glycol per year. The project uses coal as raw material, and produces syngas through the mature domestic aerospace powder gasification technology, while ethylene glycol is synthesized using Zongxin Wanfeng Davy Company’s formaldehyde hydroxymethylation technology. On August 18, Inner Mongolia JiuTai New Materials Co., Ltd. signed a contract with Air Products and Chemicals for the provision of coal-based syngas processing services for a project aimed at producing 1 million tons of ethylene glycol per year, with a total investment of around 4.8 billion yuan. Air Products will build, own, and operate air separation, gasification, and gas purification facilities, with the gasification units incorporating its recently acquired reliable Shell gasification technology. The annual production capacity of 500,000 tons of coal-based ethylene glycol at Jutai Energy (Ordos) Co., Ltd. requires a total investment of 7 billion yuan. Using coal as raw material, this project employs the aerospace pressurized coal gasification technology to produce crude syngas, which is then purified to supply qualified syngas to the client. The nominal capacity of the project is an annual production of 500,000 tons of ethylene glycol. The normal production capacity of syngas is 227,272 Nm3/h (CO+H2), with a maximum gas production capacity at load of 250,000 Nm3/h (CO+H2). The project adopts Davy Company’s formaldehyde hydroxymethylation process for the production of ethylene glycol, and it establishes the first industrial demonstration facility of its kind in China, capable of converting 2.6 million tons of coal annually on-site. On July 10, 2018, Aerospace Changzheng Chemical Engineering Co., Ltd. signed a general contract for the construction of a project to produce 500,000 tons of ethylene glycol per year with Jutai Energy (Ordos) Co., Ltd.; the total value of this general contract was estimated to be 984.95 million yuan. The contents include: gasification units, purification units (including shift units, low-temperature methanol washing units, refrigeration plant units, carbon dioxide compression units, and deoxygenation plant units), as well as supporting facilities. At the signing ceremony, Cui Yijun, General Manager of Inner Mongolia Jutai New Materials Company, first expressed his gratitude to the Southwest Electric Power Design Institute for its strong support and hard work in advancing the two projects related to Jutai New Materials Co., Ltd. and Jutai Energy (Ordos) Co., Ltd. He said that the signing of this contract was the result of close cooperation and efficient, practical partnership between the two parties. The Southwest Electric Power Design Institute holds a leading position in China when it comes to cutting-edge technologies in the field of power industry surveying and design. It hopes to pool its strongest resources for this collaboration, form a competent and efficient team, and ensure the smooth progress of the ethylene glycol project as well as its timely commissioning.
