The first phase of Qinghai Damei Coal Industry’s project for the comprehensive utilization of exhaust gases to produce olefins was completed/Source: Huahua Network – Coal Chemicals Date: 2018-10-06 Clicks: 77 On September 30, 2018, all installations related to the 110kV Huanyu substation and the external power transmission lines for Qinghai Damei Coal Industry’s project for the comprehensive utilization of exhaust gases to produce olefins were finished, and the project was successfully delivered. As the first commissioning project for the Qinghai Damei Waste Gas Comprehensive Utilization for Olefin Production project, the 110kV Huanyu Substation marks the transition of the construction of this project from the comprehensive infrastructure phase to the commissioning stage, and it represents a significant milestone in the smooth progress of the project. The Qinghai Damei 110kV Huanyu Substation and external transmission line project consists of two 5-kilometer-long transmission lines and an 110kV substation within the plant. The transmission line starts from the 330KV Nanshuo Substation of State Grid Xining Power Supply Company; each transmission route consists of 4.5 kilometers of overhead lines and about 0.4 kilometers of cable lines, extending all the way to the 110kV Huanyu Substation in Qinghai Damei. The substation project consists of 2 120MVA transformers, 110kV GIS units in seven bays, 30 35kV gas-insulated switchgear cabinets, 35kV reactive power compensation devices, the secondary system, and the corresponding structures and buildings. At the same time, a plant-wide power dispatch center was established within the station. The 110kV Huanyu Substation serves as the power hub of the entire plant, responsible for supplying electricity to substations and distribution stations in various areas of the plant; these latter facilities then supply power to the various equipment within the plant. Due to the special nature of chemical production, power supply must be highly reliable; therefore, there are extremely high requirements for the continuous operation of substations. Stringent requirements were applied from the outset of the substation design; mature and reliable equipment and technologies from both domestic and international sources were selected for use. The general contractor, Qinghai Electric Power Design Institute, assigned a construction team with extensive experience in management and construction. Under the supervision of the company’s public works project team, all civil engineering work as well as equipment installation and commissioning were completed to a high standard within one year. The olefin production project based on the comprehensive utilization of exhaust gases from Qinghai Damei Coal Industry utilizes some of the regional methanol resources derived from projects that produce methanol from exhaust gases generated in the area’s smelting operations; the project does not directly use the exhaust gases from these smelting operations to produce methanol. The methanol used as raw material for this project comes from Qinghai Guilu Chemical Co., Ltd. (1 million tons per year), Western Petrochemical Co., Ltd. (600,000 tons per year), and the Golmud Refinery of CNPC’s Qinghai Oilfield (300,000 tons per year); agreements for the supply of methanol have been signed with all of these parties. The construction of the Qinghai Damei Coal Industry’s project for the comprehensive utilization of exhaust gases to produce olefins involves an investment of 12.7 billion yuan. The project is located in the West Area of the Ganhe Industrial Park, within the Xining Economic and Technological Development Zone in Qinghai Province. Construction began on March 23rd, with a capacity of 1.8 million tons per year for methanol-to-olefins production, 300,000 tons per year for polyethylene production, and 400,000 tons per year for polypropylene production. The project also includes necessary utility systems, auxiliary facilities, and external infrastructure. The project uses MTO-grade methanol as raw material, and through production units such as methanol to olefins, olefin conversion, MTBE/1-butene, polyethylene, and polypropylene, it produces polyethylene and polypropylene products, with MTBE and C4/C6 as by-products. The MTO combined unit in this project utilizes the DMTO technology developed by the Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and was EPC-general contracted by Sinopec Luoyang Engineering Co., Ltd.
