For a coal-based synthetic ammonia and methanol project with an annual capacity of 600,000 tons, the planned production is 450,000 tons of synthetic ammonia and 150,000 tons of methanol. What are the advantages and disadvantages of each of the combined ammonia and methanol production approach as well as the two separate process routes?
For the independent route, synthetic ammonia is produced using coal; there is an excess of CO, so a shift unit is required. If the resulting CO2 is not utilized effectively, carbon resources are wasted and costs increase.
