They are definitely different; gas lifting serves to carry things out, while distillation has a refining function

Simply put, a stripping tower is one that uses steam for direct vaporization, while a distillation tower uses a reboiler for vaporization
They have a similar appearance, but their functions differ. In a stripping tower, steam enters the tower and comes into direct contact with the material, and water must be one of the components present in the tower. In a distillation tower, steam is used to heat the material at the bottom of the tower, thereby separating two or more substances.
There are also many types of stripping, some of which use nitrogen as well. It mainly depends on the purpose; stripping is primarily used to retain the medium and remove impurities. Distillation is used to separate media.
Gases such as nitrogen are introduced into the stripping tower to reduce the partial pressure, thereby stripping out dissolved gases; for example, nitrogen is used to strip CO2 from methanol. A distillation tower is used to refine and purify liquids
