Date: 2020-08-06 Clicks: 1 Recently, Shaanxi Huajian Company signed a contract for the general construction of Yanchang Petroleum’s 500,000 tons/year coal-based ethanol project with Beijing Petrochemical Engineering Co., Ltd.; the value of this contract is approximately 1.123 billion yuan. The 500,000 tons per year coal-based ethanol project of Yushen Energy Chemical Company, part of Shaanxi Yanchang Petroleum Group, is located in the southern area of the Qingshui Industrial Park within the Yulin Yushen Industrial Zone. It utilizes an ethanol production technology developed jointly by the Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics under the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Shaanxi Yanchang Petroleum Group, and this technology holds independent intellectual property rights. This project represents the initial phase of Yanchang Petroleum’s integrated CCSI industry demonstration project for the extraction of tar and the production of syngas from coal on a scale of 8 million tons per year. The total investment in the project is 6.98 billion yuan, covering an area of 1,365 mu. Using Xiwan coal as raw material, it is designed to convert 1.5 million tons of coal per year into products, with an output of 500,000 tons of ethanol per year and 50,000 tons of by-products such as methanol. The scope of the project contracted by the Chemical Construction Company includes the construction of a 450,000 tons/year methanol complex, a 500,000 tons/year ethanol complex, an air separation unit with a capacity of 75,000 Nm3/h, 3 high-pressure coal-fired boilers with a capacity of 220 tons per hour, a 6,000 tons/year sulfur plant, as well as the associated utility systems. The project is scheduled to be completed by December 31, 2021. It is reported that once completed, this project will play an important role in promoting ethanol-based gasoline, reducing energy consumption and emissions, and ensuring **energy security. It will also make new contributions to the economic development of Yulin and to Shaanxi Province’s efforts to catch up with and surpass other regions.
