On April 2, 2024, the Lingang New Area Management Committee signed a cooperation agreement with Green Marine Group. This signing marks Green Shipping Group’s first entry into the Chinese market. The group will establish the world’s first \"methanol marine fuel trading platform\" in the Lingang New Area, providing companies along the green shipping industry chain with effective tools to manage forward price risks and facilitate the physical trading of green methanol, thereby helping the Lingang New Area to make better use of green fuel resources from both international and domestic markets. At the same time, Green Shipping Group will establish the country’s first green methanol training and certification center in Lingang, providing the necessary infrastructure for Shanghai to carry out \"ship-to-ship\" methanol refueling for ships operating on international routes, thereby helping Shanghai to address its shortcomings in high-end shipping services more quickly. Headquartered in Copenhagen, Denmark, Green Shipping Group specializes in the operation and management of methanol-powered ships as well as certification training for green methanol. It is one of the main service providers for Maersk’s green methanol \"ship-to-ship\" refueling operations. It is reported that the company has several experienced experts in methanol-powered ships, who possess extensive knowledge in the design, construction, operation, and management of such ships. They are able to provide clients with professional technical support and consulting services. The company is an authority in the field of methanol-powered ship applications, and it has established joint ventures for managing methanol-powered ships with companies such as TotalEnergies, ship management service provider Dockendale Ship Management, and Singaporean financial shipowner Stamford Shipping. It is worth noting that establishing an international shipping supply service system, enhancing the capabilities of high-end shipping services, and building high-level global shipping hubs are important institutional innovation tasks outlined in the State Council’s overall plan for the new port-related areas. Meanwhile, the green and low-carbon transformation of the international shipping industry is increasingly becoming a focus of global attention. On March 1 of this year, the Management Committee of the Lingang New Area, China COSCO Shipping Group, **Power Investment Group, Shanghai Port Group, China Classification Society, and the Global Methanol Industry Association jointly established the Lingang New Area Green Shipping Industry Alliance. The alliance includes 20 relevant organizations and entities such as shipping and port companies, enterprises involved in the production of green new energy, companies providing green fuel refueling services, organizations for carbon footprint monitoring and carbon trading, as well as industry funds. As an open platform and cooperation mechanism, the aforementioned alliance will facilitate the green and low-carbon transformation of the international shipping industry, as well as exchanges and cooperation among upstream and downstream entities in the industry chain. It will also contribute to the development of standards for green new energy and to technological research and development, thereby helping Shanghai Port to improve the ecosystem of its green shipping industry chain.
