On April 16, it was learned from the Qi County People’s Government that the Jinzhong Municipal People’s Government had issued a notice regarding the implementation measures for achieving carbon peak in Jinzhong City. The document states that efforts should be made to develop the methanol industry. Establish a **-level methanol economy demonstration zone in Jinzhong City to coordinate the development of methanol fuel production and the related infrastructure for its distribution. We will make every effort to advance the development of the entire industrial chain that spans \"(raw material) production—(automobile and equipment) manufacturing—(integrated) services—(infrastructure) support—(pilot project) applications,\" in order to create a high-level methanol economy industry worth hundreds of billions. By the end of 2025, efforts will be made to bring online the expansion projects for alcohol-hydrogen electric heavy trucks in the commercial vehicle sector, with the goal of reaching a total of 10,000 units (sets) of methanol-powered vehicles and related equipment in use. By 2027, the methanol economy industry chain will be further deepened and improved, thereby enhancing the market competitiveness and industrial influence of the methanol economy in Jinzhong. An economic ecosystem covering all aspects related to vehicles, methanol, transportation, stations, and capture processes will be established, with an emphasis on the widespread use of methanol in various production and daily life applications. Promote the development of industries based on renewable energy sources such as hydrogen. Carry out in-depth research on various aspects of green and low-carbon hydrogen production, storage, transportation, refueling, and application; fully explore the potential for producing hydrogen from industrial by-products such as coke oven gas; encourage local consumption of hydrogen; and establish a diversified hydrogen supply system. Make comprehensive plans for the development of hydrogen energy infrastructure to create a safe and efficient hydrogen supply network. Promote the demonstration application of hydrogen energy in various fields such as industry and transportation in an orderly manner. At the same time, steel-coking co-production is encouraged, and the large-scale application of hydrogen metallurgy technologies that use hydrogen as a reducing agent is explored and promoted, in order to create demonstration sites for hydrogen-based metallurgy and address the challenges of decarbonization in the metallurgical industry. Promote the low-carbon transformation of transportation vehicles and equipment. Carry out initiatives to promote efficient and clean transportation equipment, actively expand the use of new and clean energy sources such as electricity, hydrogen, methanol, and advanced bio-liquid fuels in the transportation sector, vigorously promote new energy vehicles, and gradually reduce the proportion of traditional fuel-powered vehicles in new vehicle production and sales as well as in the total vehicle fleet. By 2030, efforts will be made to ensure that around 40% of newly added vehicles use new and clean energy sources as power sources, with a view to helping to bring oil consumption in the field of land transportation to its peak.
