On May 8, the first public announcement regarding the environmental impact assessment for He Yuan Yun Da (Handan) Biomass Energy Co., Ltd.’s project to produce 110,000 tons of green methanol per year was released. Basic Information on the Project: Project Name: Heyuan Yunda (Handan) Biomass Energy Co., Ltd. – 110,000 tons per year green methanol production project. Location of the project: Hebei Cixian Economic Development Zone, Handan City, Hebei Province. Scope of the project: This project utilizes biomass pressurized bubbling fluidized bed gasification technology, syngas purification technology, methanol synthesis technology, and biomass boiler power generation technology to produce green methanol from biomass raw materials; the production capacity is 110,000 tons per year. On March 16, the list of candidates shortlisted for the biomass gasification package and technical services project for the first phase of Handan’s biomass green methanol project was made public. First-ranked bidder: Donghua Engineering Technology Co., Ltd. The project is located in the Chemical Industry Park of Cixian Economic Development Zone, Handan City, Hebei Province, with a production capacity of 110,000 tons per year of green methanol. The project will follow the technical route of \"producing syngas via biomass pressurized bubbling fluidized bed – advanced purification of syngas – synthesis of green methanol\", utilizing the \"Donghua Furnace\" pressurized fluidized bed biomass gasification technology independently developed by Donghua Company to produce high-quality syngas from agricultural and forestry waste, which is then purified to yield green methanol. On November 26, 2025, the biomass gasification pilot development project operated by Donghua Engineering Technology Co., Ltd., which is part of China National Chemical Engineering Group, began trial operation with feedstock feeding, and syngas was successfully produced. This demonstrated that the core equipment of the project, the \"Donghua furnace,\" has a viable process, reliable operation, and is ready for industrial application. The project utilizes the Donghua biomass pure-oxygen pressurized gasification technology developed by the company itself to produce clean syngas from renewable biomass as raw material. This technology boasts advantages such as good adaptability to various raw materials, high processing capacity, high carbon conversion rate, low tar content in the syngas, reduced wastewater generation, and low production costs. It can effectively address the issues associated with current biomass gasification technologies, such as low efficiency and high levels of impurities, thereby improving the economic viability and environmental sustainability of biomass gasification and enabling the high-value utilization of biomass.
