Many households have now switched to smart meters, and rectifying users’ wiring is an important part of the grid transformation and upgrading process. During this process, there are certain matters that need to be taken into account when installing single-phase electricity meters, and these are things that every installer must be aware of; of course, household residents themselves also need to understand them clearly. Here, a brief introduction to this paper is provided. For residential electricity meters, the installation location must meet the following requirements: ① The meter should be installed in a bright, dry place where it is easy to read the readings. The ambient temperature for electricity meters should generally be between 0 and 40 degrees Celsius (with 15–20 degrees Celsius being ideal), and the distance from the heating system should be no less than 0.5 meters. Excessively high or low temperatures, or rapid temperature changes, will affect the accuracy of measurement. ② The location where the electricity meter is installed should be free of flammable and explosive materials as well as humid and corrosive gases, free from severe dirt, and unaffected by strong magnetic fields. ③ Several single-phase electricity meters are installed together, with a distance of at least 50 millimeters between each meter. The horizontal center line of the electricity meters should be at a height of 1.8 to 2 meters above the ground. ④ The distance between the meter installation location and the live parts must meet the specified requirements; for a voltage of 380 volts, the installation barrier between the components of the meter should be 0.5 meters, or 0.7 meters in the absence of such a barrier. ⑤ Low-voltage customer metering electricity meters (including current transformers) are not allowed to operate at a load below 10% of the rated value, or at a load exceeding 125% of the rated value. ⑥ During installation, it is necessary to ensure that the electricity meters are perpendicular to the ground, and that there is a consistent spacing between them. The enclosure should be properly grounded, and the cover should be tightly sealed. Ear seals and end seals are in place, and the wiring is correct. The wires connected to the electricity meter should be copper-core wires with a cross-sectional area of not less than 1.5 square millimeters. There should be no joints in the middle of the wire, and the metal parts of the wire ends must not be exposed. The terminal connectors make good contact. It should be neat and attractive, with each thread end numbered and labeled. ⑦ Additionally, the voltage terminal connections of the electricity meter must not be undone, and the rotation of the meter’s dial should be normal. In the Dore area, a low-voltage arrester or lightning protection gap should be installed in front of the panel. In daily use, it is possible to preliminarily determine whether an electricity meter is damaged by checking for any abnormalities in its appearance. If white or yellow stains are found inside the glass window, as well as foreign objects resulting from burned insulation of coils, a burnt-out meter back panel, or a deformed plastic cover, it indicates that the electricity meter has been damaged. Upon detecting the problem, the user should not attempt to open or disassemble it on their own; instead, it should be promptly handed over to the power supply company for repair.
